PERTUSSIS clinical alert: Public Health Alert from the Communicable Diseases Branch
Queensland Public Health and Scientific Services (QPHaSS) has requested
we distribute this public health alter to clinicians in the regions
key points:
- There has been an increase in pertussis notifications in Queensland. Children under 15 years of age account for 60% of all cases since 1 January 2024.
- Clinicians should be alert for signs and symptoms of pertussis, particularly in patients who have had contact with a confirmed case of pertussis.
- Early detection and treatment can reduce the risk of transmission.
