🔄 Understanding the Head Lice Life Cycle

Knowing how head lice live and multiply helps explain why prompt treatment — and follow-up — is so important.

🥚 1. Eggs (Nits)

Lice eggs, or nits, are tiny, oval-shaped, and yellow or white. They're glued to the hair shaft close to the scalp and hatch in about 7–10 days. Nits are often mistaken for dandruff but don’t flick off easily.

🐛 2. Nymphs

Once hatched, the young lice (nymphs) are very small and grow over the next 7–10 days, feeding on the scalp to survive. They mature into adults by day 9 or 10.

🪳 3. Adult Lice

Adult lice are about the size of a sesame seed. They live up to 30 days on a human head and can lay around 5–10 eggs per day! If untreated, the cycle continues — and spreads fast.  Find the Head Lice Life Cycle below

🔁 Why You Need Follow-Up Treatments

Because eggs hatch after the first treatment, it’s crucial to re-treat 7–10 days later to catch any newly hatched lice before they mature and lay more eggs. Daily combing and using preventative sprays can also help stop reinfestation before it starts.
