TGA guidance on conserving oral opioid medicines

The Guild is aware that there are multiple shortages, discontinuations or supply disruption affecting oral opioid medicines. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) has approved overseas alternatives under Section 19A of the Therapeutic Goods Act to help mitigate these shortages. 

In consultation with a range of stakeholders, including the Guild, the TGA has produced guidance advising pharmacists, prescribers and nurses on strategies to mitigate the impact of these shortages on patients.
