Medication Packing (Dose Administration Aids)
Cate's Chemist can package your medication using Dose Administration Aids (DAA). Are you:
- Taking more than two or three medications or supplements per day?
- Taking medication or supplements more than once a day?
- Confused by different doses with different instructions?
- A carer for someone taking medication?
Then ask your pharmacist about DAA. A pharmacist can advise whether a DAA might benefit the type of medicines you're taking or your specific dose instructions.
You don't have to be elderly, have poor memory or many prescriptions to benefit from DAA. Small changes in dose can have disproportionate effects. Forgetting a single dose, shifting a dose from morning to evening, or taking it at another time with another medication can all have health consequences.
DAA are:
- A visible reminder to take medication
- Easy to check whether medication has been taken
- Sealed and secure to prevent spills or mix-ups
- Suitable for all age groups
- Checked and supervised by qualified pharmacists
- Convenient and portable
Your pharmacist dispenses medication into a blister pack organised by time of day and day of week. The sealed pack lists all contents plus other medications taken — providing vital information for hospital or ambulance staff in an emergency.

There are many ways to access the expertise of a pharmacist at Cate's Chemist, including:
- Medication Counselling
- MedsCheck
- Diabetes MedsCheck
- Medication Profiling
- MedsIndex
- Medical Certificates
- Home Medicines Review
Your pharmacist will counsel you on the use of a medicine when it's new, when dosage changes, and periodically to ensure it's still doing what you and your doctor expect. The service is free in store and over the phone for Cate's Chemist Customer Care or Script Minder members.
MedsCheck and Diabetes MedsCheck
Managing multiple medications or diabetes is no easy task. MedsCheck is a program that allows you to schedule a 20–30 minute one-to-one session with your pharmacist to ensure you're safely and appropriately using all your medications to maximise your health. Call in store or 07 4728 4261 to see if you qualify for this free service.
Medication Profiles
A Patient Medication Profile (PMP) is a comprehensive summary of all regular medicines taken by a patient. It helps patients better understand and manage their medicines and provides a useful communication tool between patients and their health care professionals. Usually free for Customer Care or Script Minder members.
MedsIndex
MedsIndex allows you to track your medication compliance — calculating how much medicine your doctor intended you to take versus how much is being dispensed. Call in store or 07 4728 4261 to see if you qualify for this free service.
Home Medicines Review
Home Medicines Review (HMR) helps individuals living at home maximise the benefits of their medicine regimen and prevent medication-related problems. Available to patients whose GP determines a HMR is clinically necessary. It includes consideration of how home and lifestyle factors affect medication use. Ask your pharmacist or GP whether a HMR would benefit you.
Residential Medication Management Review
A Residential Medication Management Review (RMMR) is a service for permanent residents of an Australian Government funded aged care facility. When requested by the resident's GP, an accredited pharmacist conducts a comprehensive assessment to identify, resolve and prevent medication-related problems, and provides a report to the GP.
Medical Certificates
Pharmacists can provide documentary evidence of minor illness or injury for workplace purposes. There are restrictions — certificates are:
- Only issued for minor ailments such as coughs, colds, flu, and common gastrointestinal or infectious conditions
- Normally issued for a maximum of two days
- Not available for conditions treated with prescription drugs
- Not available for complex conditions — these must be referred to a doctor
- Not able to certify fitness to return to work
Allow 10–15 minutes for a consultation. Call 07 4728 4261 to make an appointment and confirm the fee.
Blood Pressure Monitoring
You might benefit from a blood pressure check if you are:
- Middle aged and never been checked
- From a family with a history of high blood pressure
- Overweight or not physically active
- Smoking or drinking alcohol regularly
- Stressed
- Diagnosed with a chronic condition that puts you at risk
The higher your blood pressure, the harder your heart has to work. High blood pressure (hypertension) is a key risk factor for heart disease and stroke — and the only reliable way to know if you have it is regular monitoring, as there are no obvious signs or symptoms.
Blood pressure monitoring at Cate's Chemist is $3 per consultation. Your pharmacist will measure and evaluate your readings on several occasions and refer you to your doctor if needed. Home blood pressure monitors are also available to purchase.
Phone 07 4728 4261 to enquire.
