COVID-19: Australian Immunisation Handbook (AIH) updated with 2024 COVID advice
AIH updated with information about COVID-19, vaccines and recommendations for vaccination
The Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care has advised that the Australian Immunisation Handbook (AIH) has been updated with information about COVID-19, vaccines and recommendations for vaccination.
March 2024 updates to the AIH include:
- new recommendations for further doses of COVID-19 vaccine every six months for adults aged ≥75 years, every 12 months and consider every six months for adults aged 65–74 years, and consider every 12 months for adults aged 18–64 years; people aged ≥6 months with severe immunocompromise are recommended further doses every 12 months and can consider a dose every six months
- new recommendations for one (1) primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine for adults aged ≥18 years; two (2) primary doses with consideration of a third for people aged >6 months with severe immunocompromise; a single primary dose can be considered for children aged 5 to <18 years with other medical conditions that may increase the risk of severe COVID-19
- a table of severely immunocompromising conditions and treatments
- a simplified table of other conditions for which COVID-19 vaccines can be considered.
